Public Relations/Marketing Internship

Purpose:

This internship will provide the student with professional experience in all phases of public relations, marketing and advertising.  Through the program, the student will become familiar with agency services, how an agency operates, and will participate in and perform tasks for both the agency and its clients.

Job Description:

The purpose will be achieved through the intern’s daily responsibilities as described below.  Although these are listed to give the intern a general guideline of the duties involved in an internship, there may be other duties requested not specifically identified.

Duties and Responsibilities

Public Relations/Media Relations

  • Practice good media relations skills by servicing phone calls both from and to the media.
  • Help AE’s with awards calendar research for agency and clients.
  • Explore possible speaking opportunities for Boscobel and Clients, and compile results into a spreadsheet with all relevant information.
  • Assist AE’s with preparation of editorial calendars, competitive analyses, status reports and circulation reports.
  • Search for PR opportunities.
  • Maintain client and agency clip books.
  • Help draft/proof Boscobel press releases and feature stories.
  • Boscobel E-Briefs/E-Tips:  Draft, manage approvals, database management (Bi-weekly)
  • Act as Boscobel’s PR liaison for all press inquiries regarding the company and management
  • Help draft and/or proofread agency and/or client press releases.
  • Update and manage Boscobel and Client press lists.

Business Development

  • Check calendar daily for upcoming new business meetings.  Offer assistance to those in charge, and/or attending the meeting. 
    • Ask how many new business packets/corporate capabilities we need, and put them together.
    • Ask if you can sit in to take notes.  (If so, prepare first draft of conference report directly after meeting, and send to all those involved.)
    • Ask if there are any copies that need to be made.
    • If meeting is at Boscobel, prepare for meeting by making sure the downstairs is presentable, and refreshments are set up in conference room in time for the meeting.
  • Research any potential networking events that would be of interest to Boscobel and Clients. 
  • Research possible memberships.
  • Assist AE’s with managing databases and update lists as necessary.

Advertising

  • Update Media Kits and Comped Subscriptions
  • Circulate and file all publications/magazines in their appropriate space in our media library.

Other possible tasks:

  • Final Proof on all materials. (Review APA Style Guide, Boscobel style guide, Client specific style guides and the GPO manual while editing.)
  • First response on phones.
  • Conduct research, as requested.
  • Keep track of tasks and provide a weekly status report.
  • Help oversee Boscobel’s Web site optimization and updates.
